Voice-Driven Applications

In a world that is rapidly becoming consumed by technology, the latest craze to grasp the hearts of people worldwide is voice-driven applications, such as Amazon Echo, Siri and Alexa.

So, what exactly are voice-driven applications and who uses them?

Voice-activated applications used to be the stuff that science fiction was made of, but not anymore. Today, these applications are readily used on a daily basis by adults and children alike for both business and personal uses.

A type of artificial intelligence, these hands-free, eyes-free interfaces are becoming more popular, allowing people to dictate correspondence, emails, text messages and much more. In fact, voice-driven applications even respond to questions, allowing you to get directions to the nearest restaurant, gas station, grocery store or shopping mall.

While Siri is probably the most popular voice-driven device, there are others on the market, such as Alexa and Amazon Echo.

Siri

Siri is available on Apple devices, such as the iPhone, iPad, iWatch, Apple TV and iMac. Siri is an intelligent personal assistant and uses voice queries to make recommendations, answer questions and perform actions, such as checking your calendar, adding to-do’s to your list, calling contacts, sending text messages, tracking your packages, etc.

Alexa

Alexa is Amazon’s cloud-based service that is available on Amazon devices. Because Alexa is a Cloud-Based intelligence service, she is always gaining knowledge and getting smarter. She has Automatic Speech Recognition and Natural Language Understanding.

Alexa can connect to Smart Homes, allowing customers to turn on their lights and thermostats, lock their homes and more. She can even set timers, alarms, calendar updates and reminders, as well as add items to your grocery list. You can also order pizza through Domino’s or schedule an Uber through Amazon’s friendly device.

Whether you want to hear the weather, breaking news or receive traffic updates, Alexa is your go-to personal assistant for your everyday tasks.

Amazon Echo

Amazon Echo connects to Alexa, allowing you to quickly make calls, play music, set alarms, ask questions or control your smart home devices. The Echo can also connect to other Echo devices in your home.

This device also broadcasts 360-degree omnidirectional audio, has seven microphones, noise cancellation and beamforming technology. Whatever you want to do – close your garage door, activate your outdoor sprinklers, check sports scores or add events to your calendar, Amazon Echo is your go-to virtual assistant device for all your needs.

No matter what type of device you choose, virtual personal assistants are the way of the future.
