Things To Do In Charleston in October

 

With the wind chill picking up, and the leaves beginning to descend, it’s time for Autumn fun in the city of Charleston. If you are looking for some great fall events or some spooky family fun, see below for the best events happening throughout October in the Lowcountry.

Making Beautiful Music

Marsh Jam - This monthly series partners with Awendaw Green Barn Jams to provide entertainment from local musicians and artists on the beautiful 17-acre property The Bend, on the banks of the Ashley River. October 5th, Gates open at 5:30 PM.

Colour of Music Festival - Featuring some of the best local black musicians, this concert celebrates the music of Saint-Georges, William Grant Still and George T. Walker with individual vocal, piano and organ recitals. It will then top off the night with an orchestra performance you won’t want to miss. October 18-22, various locations.

Harry Potter Film Concert Series - Audiences will be delighted while being able to view the beloved “Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone” on a 40-foot screen and enjoy the original score performed by the Charleston Symphony at the same time. October 28, 7:30 PM and October 29, 1:30 PM; cost is $10.

Enjoy The Arts

Moja Arts Festival - This celebration of all things African American and the Caribbean, this festival offers a variety of events including dance, theater, music, and visual arts. September 27-October 7th

Charleston Arts Festival - Challenge your preconceived notions as an artist and a lover of the arts with this unique festival that asks you to “bridge the gap between artist intention and audience expectation by leveraging creative collaboration across artistic disciplines.” Now through October 28th.

Autumn on the Ashley - This craft lovers dream features buyable art from local artisans such as woodworking, carvings, paintings, textiles, and even furniture. All of this is on display in the beautiful Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. October 14-15; cost to the craft fair is included in the cost of admission to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens.

Overeat at Oktoberfests

Folly Oktoberfest - Enjoy live music, authentic German cuisine, TVs for watching the games and even activities for the kids. October 7

Ocktoberfest - Celebrate all things German with music, brats, and beer at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. October 14, St. Matthew’s Church on King Street.

Family Fun and Spooky Thrills

West Family Corn Maze - With a different corn maze theme every year (Bee-theme this year), you’re sure to always have a challenge! More attractions on-site include a Farm Zoo, Pumpkin Patch, Hay Ride, Apple slingshot, and more! Home Telecom is a proud sponsor of this family fun event. September 28-October 28.

Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze - With a vast field of different size pumpkins to choose from, you won't want to miss this pumpkin patch. Including a corn maze, this Coca-Cola sponsored event is sure to be fun for the whole family. Now through October 31.

Magnolia Plantation Family Fright Nights - Enjoy haunted train rides, hay-bale mazes, face painting and more at this family-friendly event. Each night will feature a costume contest with prizes for best costume. October 20-21 and October 27-28; admission is $10 per person and children 6 and under are free.

Coastal Carolina Fair - Featuring live music, animal and craft shows, plus rides and delightful fair food, this family fun is not to be missed. October 26-November 6

Moncks Corner Rodeo - This event is fun for the whole family, including Bronc Riding, Steer wrestling, and bull riding. Be sure to make it to Kid’s Night Friday, sponsored by Home Telecom, where kids 11 and under are free. October 5-6
