Join Home Telecom in Donating Blood

Home Telecom is partnering with the American Red Cross for a blood drive on Friday, February 7, 2020. January is National Blood Donor Month, and while our drive maybe a week late, we encourage you and your loved ones to visit us at 579 Stoney Landing Road, Moncks Corner SC 29461, from 10 AM to 3 PM.

Donating blood isn’t just good for recipients, but it’s also great for donors!

Donating Blood

Blood transfusions occur daily throughout the world, and nearly 5 million Americans need a transfusion. Medical experts should always perform blood donation in a blood bank, clinic or hospital setting.

Donating blood can help treat patients that suffer from bleeding disorders, cancer, chronic anemia, hereditary blood abnormalities, sickle cell anemia and even those undergoing complicated surgeries. Human blood cannot be manufactured, which means that the only source for transfusions are people.

People that have chronic medical conditions, such as hepatitis or AIDS, should not donate blood. Pregnant women should ask their doctor before donating blood too.

Health Benefits

Not only does donating blood help save people’s lives, but it’s also good for donors.

Anti-Cancer Benefits

Donating blood helps lower the risk of developing cancer. When you donate blood, it helps reduce iron levels in your body, and lower iron levels are linked to low cancer risks.

Prevents Hemochromatosis

Hemochromatosis is a health condition that develops when the body absorbs too much iron. This condition may be due to alcoholism, anemia, other disorders or may be hereditary. By regularly donating blood, you can help reduce and regulate iron overload.

Healthy Heart and Liver

When you reduce iron overload in the body, you decrease your chances of contracting a heart and liver ailment. Iron-rich diets may increase iron levels in the body, but since only so much iron can be absorbed, the excess gets stored in the liver, pancreas and heart. High iron levels increase your chances of developing liver failure, cirrhosis, pancreas damage or heart abnormalities. When you donate blood regularly, you help balance iron levels in your body.

Stimulates Blood Cell Production

When you donate blood, the body has to work to replenish blood loss, which means it will stimulate the production of new red blood cells, which will help keep your body renewed and refreshed for optimal peak performance.

Weight Loss

When you regularly donate blood, you can also trim your waistline, as it can help reduce weight, which is helpful for those that are obese or at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
