Celebrating Cinco De Mayo in Charleston

We may still be in the middle of a pandemic, but Charleston is ready to celebrate Cinco de Mayo safely this year. While you may need to bring your mask, there’s no reason why you can’t celebrate Mexican heritage this year.

Home Telecom has rounded up the top events for Cinco de Mayo’s 2021 celebration.

  • Cinco de Mayo Festival - Celebrate the fifth annual event and watch some of Charleston’s local celebrities compete in a fun-filled “Dancing with the Local Stars” competition on Saturday, May 2. Browse vendors, sample the area’s local Mexican cuisine and enjoy a Mexican beer or margarita while listening to Latin American entertainment. Admission is only $8.00 if purchased in advance or $10.00 at the door, and children age 12 and under are free. Purchase tickets online. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit The Ryan White HIV Care Program at Roper St. Francis Healthcare. Visitors Center Bus Terminal (downtown), 375 Meeting Street, 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM
  • Matadors - Swing by Matadors Tequileria on Wednesday, May 5, to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in style with traditional tacos, margaritas and live music featuring Matt Jordan and Joel Rush. 3 Matadors Tequileria, 2447 Ashley River Road
  • Jalisco - Participate in a fun tailgate-style parking lot party at Jalisco’s! Swing by on May 5 to check out their full-service taco tent and margarita bar. They will also allow 10 to 15 guests to enter a special socially distanced taco eating contest that only requires a $20.00 buy-in. Half the funds raised by the event will go to QSHG, and the winner of the competition will receive the other half, plus a free hat and t-shirt. Registration is between 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and the contest will begin at 6:00 PM. 1271 Folly Road, 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM
