Home Telecom Expands Its Gigabit Broadband to Reach an Additional 23,000 Homes and Businesses in the Lowcountry

In 2013, Home Telecom became the first telecommunications company to offer Gigabit speeds in South Carolina, providing gigabit service in the Nexton® community. Nexton, a technology focused master planned development located near Summerville, SC, is already home to WestRock Offices, SCRA, the new Nexton Elementary, The Parks apartments, and the Brighton Park single-family home community. Recently, Cabela’s, the World’s Foremost Outfitter®, announced building its first Lowcountry store in Nexton. Nexton has a long range plan that will include over 10,000 residences and 6 million square feet of commercial and retail space.
William S. Helmly, President and Chief Operating Officer of Home Telecom, says they have close to 60,000 fiber miles located in the Lowcountry. This Gigabit corridor passes approximately 15,000 homes and over 9,000 businesses, giving lightning fast Internet speed to thousands of South Carolinians. “The good news is since future-proof fiber is already feeding homes and businesses along our Gigabit corridor, launching a gigabit service will require only minimal upgrades to the existing equipment. No extensive rebuilds will be necessary, which prevents having to dig up front lawns,” he explains.
Summers Corner, another WestRock development located off Hwy 61 in Summerville, SC, will light up gigabit service when its first residents move in this fall. The planned community will develop over the next 20 years, with approximately 7,500 homes and 200,000 square feet of commercial and retail space. All will have access to gigabit speeds, as much as 100 times faster than most Internet services.
“By the end of 2015, we are excited to announce that residents and businesses on Daniel Island in the city of Charleston, in neighborhoods off Clements Ferry Road and in areas of North Charleston – Oak Terrace Preserve, The Factory at Garco and The Flats at Mixson, will have access to Velocity Gigabit speeds. These launches will equate to an additional 12 neighborhoods with a combination of 5,500 homes and businesses in the Lowcountry with access to gigabits speeds,” explains Helmly. This is in addition to the Nexton and Summers Corner developments.

Home Telecom will continue rolling out Velocity Gigabit in 2016 in planned phases introducing new areas each quarter of 2016. By the end of 2016, Home Telecom plans for 50 Velocity fiber neighborhoods to have access to gigabit speeds.
