Home Telecom Sponsors STEM Lab at Rollins Edwards Community Center
The Town of Summerville recently approved Home Telecom’s sponsorship of the brand new Summerville Parks and Recreation STEM Lab. This partnership is not just about a lab, but about creating more opportunities for education, innovation, and community engagement throughout Summerville, benefiting the entire community.
William Helmly, CEO of Home Telecom, released a statement saying, “We’re proud to support the next generation of innovators by investing in STEM education in the communities in which we live. With this contribution and commitment for ongoing support, we’re ensuring students gain hands-on experience in coding and esports. By opening up this world to young minds, they will see there are other ways to connect with peers and develop crucial skills for future high-demand careers.”
The Summerville STEM lab will be located in a multi-purpose room in the current Rollins Edwards Community Center. A room in the community center will be transformed into a technology-driven, dynamic space and will be fully equipped with 10 computer stations. Home Telecom will make an initial $25,000 investment to help fund the outfitting of five of the gaming stations. Home Telecom has also committed to providing ongoing program support for the next five years, including additional sponsorship, bringing their total contribution to the Summerville STEM lab to $55,000. Once the lab is complete, it will provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities to residents to help teach and improve esports, summer camps, music production, robotics, art, photography and even coding skills. The STEM lab will be available to all age groups of children and adolescents in an attempt to help them learn more and gain valuable digital skills to help encourage different career opportunities.
“The STEM lab represents an exciting step forward for our community,” said Amy Evans, the Town of Summerville Director of Parks and Recreation. “By investing in both the technology and the programs to support it, Home Telecom is helping us create meaningful opportunities for residents of all ages, with a special emphasis on engaging and preparing teens for their future.”
